1st day – Overnight stay over the hills of Friuli
In the later afternoon arrival in Brda. Accommodation at the estate. Dinner with typical regional delicacies from the borderland Brda – Collio. Dinner is often served on the terrace seasonable. Then you can enjoy the panoramic view over Friuli at candlelight. Overnight stay at the estate..
2nd day – The region Brda –discover Collio!
In the morning:
Alternative A: Sightseeing of the medieval village Smartno. The village on the hill, which is surrounded by a defensive wall and fortified towers, was mentioned at the first time in 1317. The historical settlement is described as aerie. A walk through the fortress of Smartno on the narrow lanes between old houses creates a medieval labyrinth. Sightseeing of the church of the Holy Martin, a wine vault and other sights; wine tasting and tasting of other regional delicacies (cold cuts) in Brda.
Alternative B: Sightseeing of the Renaissance castle Dobrovo. Its exterior is more or less obtained and it is the most beautiful castle in the region of Goriska. The rich historico-cultural past is enriched by a gallery which consists of artworks by an important son of Brda, the very famous artist Zoran Music and the last possessor of the castle, Earl Bagueri. Wine tasting and cold cuts with regional delicacies in the old castle cellar.
Afternoon:
We spend time on the Italian side of Brda (Collio). Sightseeing of Cormon, former administrative center for southwest Brda. A walk on medieval lanes between renovated picturesque old houses, decorated with interesting portals, which reminds one of the colourful past. Wine tasting in the vinothek on the main center, where it is possible to taste various exclusive wines from the Collio region (as choice). Further, it is planned to visit a wine grower, a wine cellar and to enjoy a wine tasting. Return to Brda. Dinner at a wine restaurant and overnight stay at the estate.
3rd day – Experience the region on the Karst
In the morning:
After breakfast departure to the Karst. Journey time 1,5 hours to an old village which impresses its visitors with its view of the place. Walk on narrow stone lanes which carry you back to the history of the Karst. Sightseeing of the renovated castle, which was damaged during WWII. In the castle you can admire the gallery of the famous graphic artist Lojze Spacal. After this, you can walk through the Fabiani yard of the castle. Max Fabiani, a famous Slovenian-Austrian-Italian architect was born near Stanjel. He was architect of the Emperor Karl, and he taught Hitler in architecture. Next, we visit the vineyard on the Karst. Tasting of the most famous Karst delicacies – Prosciutto and Teran – typical variety of wine from the region of Karst, which grows on red soil.
In the afternoon:
Panoramic drive through the region of Karst. Stay in one of its picturesque villages. Walk through small towns. Dinner with typical delicacies of Karst. Return to Brda. Overnight stay at the estate.
4th day – Say good bye to Brda
You can visit the village Smartno and then you’ll say good bye to Brda. Hint: Drive homewards along the Isonzo to Austria and experience the icing on the cake of your vacations!
